Futures markets are marketplaces where traders may purchase or sell conventional contracts for the delivery of assets, such as financial instruments, commodities, and currencies, at a later point in time. These agreements are called Futures. Future contracts are an efficient means for market players to control risk as they can operate as a hedge against price movements.

Various conventional attributes like contract size, expiration date, and delivery specifications derive their value from an underlying asset in the Futures contract. Investors have an option to go long if they expect prices to rise or short if they expect the prices to fall. In the futures market, arbitrage and algorithmic are future trading strategies for profiting from price differences and inefficiencies in the market. 

Arbitrage in Futures Trading:

Arbitrage strategy involves taking advantage of price differences between comparable or identical assets in several marketplaces. It is a technique used by traders to profit on variations in an asset's price between marketplaces or periods. Arbitrage possibilities arise when the price of a futures contract deviates from either its fair value or the current price of the underlying asset. 

Purchasing an object at a cheaper price in one location and selling it at a higher price in another is the aim of arbitrage, which allows the traders to benefit from price differences. The trader uses this approach with the expectation that prices will ultimately equalize and keep the difference in price as profit. Opportunities for arbitrage may be found in a variety of financial markets, such as futures contracts, equities, currencies, and commodities. Let's understand this with an example:

Example of Arbitrage in Online Futures Trading

There are two candy stores: Candy Store A, which is located just next to your house, and Candy Store B, which is located a bit further away. Your favorite chocolate costs ₹50 at Candy Store A but ₹55 at Candy Store B. Now, if you own a magical scooter that makes it possible for you to get between the stores in a moment, you might purchase the chocolate at Store A for ₹50 and sell it at Store B for ₹55, profiting ₹5 every time. This is Arbitrage Trading. They search for price differentials across several locations and profit by purchasing at a lower price and selling at a higher price point.

Strategies for Arbitrage Trading:

Spatial Arbitrage:

This tactic takes advantage of pricing variations for the same asset in several places. For example, traders can profitably purchase on the less costly exchange and sell on the more expensive one if a commodity trades at a greater price on one exchange than another.

Calendar Spread Arbitrage:

This approach allows traders to profit from changes in price between futures contracts that have different expiration dates. Their strategy is to take advantage of differences in the time value of the contracts by concurrently initiating long and short positions across different contract months.

Inter-exchange Arbitrage:

This technique targets price differences between the same futures contract on multiple exchanges. In order to profit from the price differential, traders can purchase contracts on one exchange where they are discounted and sell them on another where the contracts are overpriced.

Traders must gain an understanding of arbitrage tactics to evaluate how algorithmic trading optimizes the consummation of these intricate deals. This strategy can be aligned with options trading strategies to proliferate higher in the options market.

Algorithmic Trading in Futures Markets

Algorithmic trading is the practice of quickly and accurately executing trading strategies through various computer algorithms. These elements operate in unison to automate trading and react instantly to changes in the market. They are useful for analyzing enormous data and patterns. 

Traders can take advantage of momentary prospects and reduce the effect of market changes on trading results. It enables one to execute trades faster than a person could.

Trend-following Algorithms:

These algorithms recognize and take advantage of current market trends by placing trades that follow the trend.

Mean Reversion Algorithms:

By spotting instances in which an asset's price deviates from its historical average, these algorithms seek to benefit from price reversals.

Market-making Algorithms:

By putting buy and sell orders and taking advantage of the bid-ask spread, these algorithms give the market liquidity.

RoboTrader, a helpful robot companion who assists you with your toys, enjoys following patterns, such as the direction in which your toy cars consistently race. Analogously, adults utilize algorithms—algorithms similar to RoboTraders—to track stock market patterns. Thus, RoboTrader might suggest, "Let's buy more cars!" if the cost of your beloved toy vehicle continues to rise. Additionally, RoboTrader may advise selling some autos if the price starts to drop in order to prevent financial loss. This is similar to how adults use a process known as "algorithmic trading" to ensure that they are making wise decisions about the toys—or, in their case, money.

Arbitrage and Algorithmic trading strategies are the best strategy for futures trading. These strategies are widely used in the Futures market by the traders. Traders can achieve a competitive advantage in the financial markets by acquiring knowledge and proficiency in arbitrage and algorithmic trading strategies.
